Údar an láithreáin ná taifead a dhéanamh ar an dream agus ar an muintir a lonnaigh sa limistéar chomh fada siar agus is féidir sin. Tá an bhliain 1960 tógtha mar dháta ancaire - cé bhí sna tithe an bhliain sin agus roimhe. Is iad muintir an dreama a dhearbhaíonn an t-eolas agus is féidir é a athrú tráth ar bith ar a gcomhairle sin. Welcome to the website of The Islands in southwest Connemara. Travelling from Bealadangan into Lettermore and on to Lettermullan brings you through the area traditionally known as The Islands, and now regularly referred to in Irish as Ceantar na nOileán. We especially welcome our emigrant families, relatives and friends both in Ireland and abroad and who might not be familiar with the Irish language.
The object of the site is to record the names of the families who lived in the area as far back as we can ascertain. The year 1960 is used as an anchor date – identifying the people who resided in the houses that particular year and in preceding years. Each household has been asked to contribute their own family information which can be revised on request on an on-going basis. We will welcome contributions from family members, descendants, neighbours and all who can add to the store of knowledge about this wonderful community who survived through hard work, grit, perseverance and sheer bloody-mindedness.
We begin here with the villages of Teeranea, Trabane, Maumeen and Glentrasna and we hope in time to add more villages to the site.
